An interesting POSTVMVS PIETAS AVG

Some days ago I have purchased this coin:

What do you think about it?
I think it's a very good style local issue with a Gallienus reverse...

Très intéressante et intrigante pièce… À première vue pas « barbare » du tout. Ce genre d’exemplaire me porte à me poser cette question: les coins étaient ils toujours détruits après un changement d’Empereur ou parfois « empruntés » pour usage dans des ateliers clandestins?

the coin looks as a local issue if you see with attention.
the obverse style is not official even if of a very high style.
I've checked in many sources but no official obverse of Postumus seems to be from the same die.
But It's a suggestive type!

Have you a pic of the piece from AGK?

I find a picture of a similar type in colleconline:



but my specimen is from different die and my reverse ant has not the mint mark "P" on left field.

I have not idea if AGK has or not the mintmark letter.

Doyen listed two type for Gallienus with no mintmark the 702 and 703 (the one with continuous legend PIETAS AVG, the second with borken legend PIE-TAS-AVG), here the pics:

Malheureusement non il n'y a pas la photo dans l'AGK, peut-être en cherchant des infos sur le trésors
L'AGK ne stipule pas la marque d'officine, ce qui n'est pas anormal vu qu'il s'agit d'une monnaie locale qui n'était pas pour tromper, le but n'était pas de faire une copie exacte mais reprendre un type connu par la population dans la région je suppose, a noter que Victorinus aussi a eu droit a ce type là repris en monnaie locale

I think that all this coin came from the same local officina. The style of the two pictures is very similar.
There is also an AGK number for thi reverse reprised by Victorinus?
I hope to find on the net a specimen with a Victorinus obverse..

Pour le Victorinus c'est le N157b (R5), il provient du tresors de Lectoure (a 20Km de chez moi je vais chercher dans le jardin si j'en trouve pas un autre lol)

Nice coin, just checked the Tattershall hoard report (CHRB IV) and the one in AGK is without P in left field:

Your example indeed seems to be a die match with the Gallienus piece. Interesting…
Does somebody know if the Guercheville hoard is published?

Don’t think so, but you can find 120 specimens (on 2200) here…..:

At the moment Guercheville hoard is not yet published. I asked for the report but CGB hasn't it.
I'm searching in my archives if there's is some die link with an Aureolus ant... In my opinion the author of these coins was a sculptor of the Milan mint or had one or more dies from this mint, but all these pieces are unofficial issues.

Don’t see the Milan style for me a local imitation you see in UK an French hoards.
Will check my local imitations if I have something that comes close.
